2011 Winestate Australian & NZ Wine of the Year!
Saracen Estates “Best Cabernet Sauvignon of Australia & NZ for 2011!"
Saracen Estates Owner Maree Saraceni and General Manager Dennis Parker, flew across to Adelaide for the 2011 Winestate Australian & NZ Wine of the Year Awards, presented at the National Wine Centre of Australia on Thursday 10 November 2011.
An exclusive cocktail luncheon followed by the award ceremony was attended by approximately 150 people, of mainly award winners, finalists and sponsors as well as Winestate staff.
Trophies were presented to the winners of each of the 14 categories with Maree Saraceni accepting the award for “Best Cabernet Sauvignon of Australia & NZ for 2011”.
7 Awards were presented to Australian wines, with 7 awarded to wines from New Zealand.
Saracen Estates were proud to be one of the 7 Australian trophy winners and the only wine from Western Australia.
Some 2000 Cabernets were tasted and judged during the year and both the Saracen Estates 2008 Cabernet and 2008 Reserve Cabernet, were nominated for Wine of the Year. The 2008 Reserve Cabernet taking out the 5 Stars and Gold Medal! Both the Saracen Estates 2009 Shiraz and 2009 Reserve Shiraz were also nominated for Wine of the Year.
Winestate: “As a finalist from over 11,000 wines judged this year, with less than 5% of wines entered reaching the finalist stage, and with undoubtedly the most difficult, independent and challenging judging panels, a Winestate Medal… or in Saracen Estates case, a Wine of the Year Award, is truly deserved!”
Winestate encouraged Saracen Estates to enter their award winning Cabernets internationally, in the World Competition, across to China and Hong Kong.
Winestate Wine of the Year Special Issue will be distributed from 15 December.
The story will also be featured in the Winestate Annual, released from the 2nd week of January 2012.

Our 2008 Reserve Cabernet achieves again as Best Cabernet with Top Gold & Trophy! Our 2008 Cabernet scores a Gold and so too, our 2007 Reserve Cabernet!
Our 2009 Cabernet Merlot has come out Best Bordeaux Blend with Top Gold and a Trophy!

Our 2008 Cabernet's have hit the the ground galloping in recent Winestate Cabernet and Cabernet Blends tastings!
Our 2008 Cabernet scored 5/5 Stars and Top of Class, in the $40 class and our 2008 Reserve Cabernet achieved 4 Stars in the $70 class (this wine also scored 4.5 Stars in their New Release Tasting). Overall, in their World Cabernet Tasting including Chateaux Lafite 2007, Chateaux Mouton Rothschild 2006 and Chateaux Latour 2006, our 2008 Cabernet came out in front of all 3 Grand Cru Chateaux's!

James Halliday rated Saracen Estates 5 Stars in his 2012 Australian Wine Companion! Our 2010 SBS with its’ “energetic palate” rated 95 points and so too, our “very fine and elegant” 2009 Shiraz! Our 2010 Sauvignon Blanc came in with 94 points with a “zesty palate that has drive and energy”!

Our 2009 Shiraz's have shone in Winestate's New Release Tastings, both achieving 5/5 Stars. Our 2009 Shiraz (also wears a Gold Medal fom the Margaret River Wine Show) and 2009 Reserve Shiraz are featured in the main story of our Autumn 2011 Newsletter.

Another amazing sunset reflecting into the stunning water view at Saracen Estates, was the perfect back drop for the 2010 Margaret River Wine Show Gala Dinner, with Saracen Estates Premium Wines, made by Winemaker Bob Cartwright, sharing in the spotlight.
220 industry and local guests enjoyed Premium Margaret River wines and canapes on arrival, then relaxed into a wonderful night of fine wine & dining, awards and celebrations.
"Best Blend of Sauvignon Blanc & Semillon" went to our current release (Gold Medal) Saracen Estates 2009 SBS. "Best Cabernet Sauvignon" was our current release (Gold Medal) Saracen Estates 2007 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon and overall, "Most Successful Exhibitor" was the highlight for Saracen Estates on the night. Maree Saraceni was most pleased and proud to accept the trophies on behalf of Saracen Estates.
The Margaret River Wine Show Awards night is the icing on the cake for a big year of Awards and Accolades for Saracen Estates. Other Medals in the show included a Gold Medal for our 2010 SBS and 2009 Shiraz, and Silver Medals for our 2008 Shiraz and 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon.
Recently Awarded a Silver Medal at the 2010 WA Tourism Awards for Tourism Wineries, Distilleries & Boutique Breweries Category, other achievements this last season alone include:
WA's Best Boutique Brewery - 2010 AHA Excellence Awards.
Another Gold Medal (to add to our Gold for Boutique Wine Awards) for our 2008 Shiraz in the 2010 Great Australian Shiraz Challenge.
Gold Medal again for our 2008 Shiraz, a Gold Medal for our 2010 Sauvignon Blanc and a Silver Medal for our 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot in the 2010 Australian Small Winemakers Show.
Silver Medal for our 2010 Rose, 2010 SBS and 2010 Sauvignon Blanc at the 2010 QANTAS Wine Show of WA, with a healthy array of Bronze Medals throughout.
