5 STARS!  JAMES HALLIDAY 2014 AUSTRALIAN WINE COMPANION!
James Halliday rated Saracen Estates 5 Stars in his 2014 Australian Wine Companion!
Scoring 94 Points for our 2010 Reserve Shiraz (overall weight and mouthfeel provides finesse and texture, due to the skilled use of French oak),
2010 Reserve Chardonnay (a complex wine reflecting its alcohol, barrel fermentation and extended lees contact)   and
2010 Shiraz! (Good purple-crimson; the attractive, berry-filled bouquet introduces a juicy wine, with supple red and black fruits supported by silky tannins and evident oak on the medium-bodied palate and the long, harmonious finish)
...  and
93 Points for our 2009 Reserve Cabernet (toasty oak sits neatly above redcurrant and cassis fruit at this early stage; the palate reveals more depth of character with fine-grained tannins and silky red and black fruits lingering harmoniously on the finish)  and
2009 Chardonnay! (very fresh and vibrant)
Congratulations Saracen Estates!

BEST AUSTRALIAN SPARKLING WINE!  SYDNEY INTERNATIONAL WINE COMPETITION 2013

Owner Maree Saraceni and General Manager Dennis Parker, flew across to Sydney for the 33rd Sydney International Wine Competition 2013 Major Awards Ceremony, presented at the Shangri-La Hotel in The Rocks, on Saturday 23 February 2013.

With the competition based on wine judging performed along with food, how appropriate that a decadent Degustation Banquet Luncheon accompanied the award ceremony which was attended by approximately 200 people, of mainly award winners, finalists, judges and sponsors as well as Sydney International Wine Competition staff.

2000 wines were judged by 13 judges, with the final 400 wines being re-judged with food. This places a limit on the number of entries and number of wines judged in the finals. Entries are capped at 2000 then assessed with the top 20% going onto the finals, creating high value on the competition and awards. This year renowned chef Tony Bilson provided a superb selection of food for the judging.

Trophies were presented to the winners of each of the categories with the award for the Sparkling being announced first. Maree and Dennis accepted the award and trophy for “Best Australian Sparkling Wine”, for the Methode Traditionnelle Saracen Estates 2009 Sparkling Maree. Saracen Estates once again flying the flag for WA, being the only Western Australian trophy winner!

SIWC: “In their various specialised categories, the competitions’ 24 Trophy Winners amongst a galaxy of vinous stars, represent the elite wines of the annual competition.”

The Saracen Estates team are very proud of their first ever vintage of Sparkling named after owner Maree Saraceni. In addition to the Best Australian Sparkling Wine, the 2009 Sparkling Maree has achieved a Blue Gold Medal at the Sydney International Wine Show 2013 and a Gold Medal in the Winewise Small Vignerons Awards 2012. Only last month, the 2009 Sparkling Maree was also awarded Best Sparkling Wine in Western Australia 2012 for Winestate Magazine, at the Hyatt Regency in Perth.
